The Indian rupee gained on Wednesday, August 27 as the central bank sold dollars for a second straight session after month-end demand for the U.S. unit from oil firms threatened to drive the rupee above 44 a dollar. The partially convertible rupee settled 0.3% stronger at 43.71/72 a dollar than Tuesday`s close of 43.84/85. It had hit a 17-month low of 44.26 during trade on Tuesday.
